Tune for Wednesday

This is just so much fun, it should get your feet tapping!

Thursday night is Gig Night!!!

Beirut who hail from the US has been a favourite of mine for a few years now since they were introduced or at least alluded to by a couple of good friends from Sydney (thanks S and J). They have also been on my wishlist to see live for about the same amount of time. My friends saw them play in NYC and said they were fantastic.

I love their Gypsy Jazz, horn filled sound. And this Thursday they are in town and I am booked and going to see them at the Hifi in West End!!! So excited. Take a listen to their new single:

Billy Crystal is BACK!!!!

I stumbled across the Academy Awards trailer today – very excited. He’s always been my favourite host:

Nostalgia track

I just found this track on Youtube – At the Hop by Danny & The Juniors. This tune brings back some good memories. Of at a young age, putting this song on and dancing around the house to it. It’s just so infectious. I hope you love it too:

Movie goings

Seriously, I think there are only two reasons I ever watched Mission Impossible 3 when it was released years ago –

1. I was on a plane going somewhere, probably bored.
2. Philip Seymour Hoffman was in it, and I have a major soft-spot for him which harks back to seeing him in Twister.

So I’m not sure how I caved and agreed to go along with friends to see Mission Impossible 4. But… it turned out to be quite a lark, and a bit of fun. There were numerous jokes before the movie started about what the cinema smelt like (we went to Southbank) – in contention was dirty underwear, or like various smelly things had been rubbed into the material of the seats.
Yes it made me feel a little uncomfortable! But we got take-out tea from Tlicious which was hilarious in light of the genre of movie we were about to see. Can tea and action films be combined? The question needs to be asked.
But the movie was fun, fast-paced, and witty due to Simon Pegg mostly. Despite all that is said about Tom Cruise I think he is a great actor, and he was quite lovely to look at.

What’s been peaking your interest movie-wise lately?

2012 – surprise me!

2 Jan

So it’s the second day into the new year. I’m not sure how I feel about this year yet. Not sure how the year will proceed. There are new things afoot. Things I want to accomplish. But I’ve decided not to make any resolutions for the new year. I’ve been awful at keeping them in years past. So instead with goals in mind I will enter into this new space. I’ve had almost two weeks off work with which to enjoy my time at home. I’ve done a few day trips – twice to Byron, and once to Noosa. I much prefer Byron. It is my kind of place. Alot of people abhor how touristy it has got, but I secretly love the hustle bustle, and the people watching that can be done there. Up in Noosa it has more of a retiree vibe. Byron is all about the backpackers and the younger crowd. Unfortunately today we had to rush back as our friends had to get back to Brisbane to go out for dinner, otherwise I could imagine sitting up at the top pub for a little longer, knocking back some more ciders and then maybe wandering down the street for some dinner.

Although… it’s probably a good thing I’m back in Brisbane now. Work tomorrow. The time off has been awesome, it has just gone way too quickly.

I’d love to hear your New Years resolutions if you have any. Please do tell.
