Hello Annerley!

29 Feb

So much expectation, so much possiblity, so much exploring to be done. We have now moved successfully and are in our newly painted, fresh apartment next to a couple of the sweetest most beautiful friends ever. I do indeed love walking home through the park, seeing people out with their dogs, cycling, running, smiling and then home to have a catch-up on the steps of our unit with the neighbours.

Tune for Wednesday: Man or Muppet

This was one of the nominees for Best Song for the Oscar Awards on Monday night, written by Bret of Flight of the Conchords fame. I was pretty hopeful that it would take the prize and to screams of joy, it did.  It’s a great fun catchy song! A perfect choice for my Wednesday tune.

Happy Academy Awards Day!

So it’s that time of the year again. Oscars time. I’ve been in high expectation about them. I love this ceremony. I don’t always feel it has the most validity as to the true awards for the greatest films of the year, but I just get involved and enjoy every moment of them. I’m really excited since they decided to ditch the young hip presenters of last year (James Franco you were awful, Anne Hathaway you’re always lovely so I can forgive you) and bring back one of my favourites – Billy Crystal.

So tonight I plan to go home, make dinner, curl up on the couch and watch uninterrupted Oscar coverage. It begins in Qld at 7.30pm, a much more dignified time of the night than previous years. So far I have not heard anything about it, just the way I like it.

And my predictions

Best Picture – The Artist

Best Actress – Meryl Streep

Best Actor – George Clooney.

*What are your thoughts?*

Tune for Wednesday

A friend at work recently lent me their copy Uncut magazine’s favourite music of 2012. . Amongst it I found a gem – a song by Bill Callahan. I first heard his beautiful sounds on the sound track to High Fidelity with his band, Smog. The song – Cold Blooded Old Times. A song I have always considered one of the best of the movie. After a little searching today via youtube I found this song that is from Smog. It is beautiful, haunting, soothing, wonderful music. I need to invest more time into this man. Enjoy!

Goodbye Brighton Rd!

20 Feb

You still hold for me such fond memories. Driving down the street on the way to Annerley and away from you I felt sad. You’ve nestled me for my entire existence in Brisbane thus far. I’ve lived on two numbers on your street. You’ve spoiled me and loved me with your easy proximity to all that I wanted.

Thank you. It’s been fun. Goodbye.

Tune for Wednesday

How can you be unhappy with music like this:

With a little help from my friends

I’m into day ten of the cleanse and I’m feeling really good. Monday and Tuesday afternoons of last week I felt the lag at 3ish. All I felt like was cupcakes with a decadent serving of creamy sugary icing. But so far… I have resisted. I think what has been helping is my latest craze – banana and berry smoothies. Without dairy and sugar I have been making my beautiful shakes with two bananas, frozen blueberries, a teaspoon of honey and the special ingredient, coconut cream. So so delicious.

Since then with my tastes to sugars getting sharper I have cut out the need for sweetners of any sort, and has discarded the honey. Last night the recipe included: two bananas, a mix of frozen blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, half a can of coconut milk, soda water and a splash of soy milk. It was thicker and very tasty indeed.

Other things in my week of food that have been making the cleanse alot more palatable.

Chicken rice paper wraps

Three units of alcohol a week, give or take. 🙂

Gluten free cornflakes with blueberries, necterines and soy milk.

So the cleanse continues… And the cravings are getting less and less. I definitely don’t feel the same need for sweet things. It actually is empowering to resist them. It feels good to deny. There has been talk of this cleanse continuing til May. Can I do it? We’ll see!

My friend B cooked dinner for S and I last night – grilled marinated chicken with asparagus and the most amazing carrots ever!
